Punctures

Punctures

Not everything is rosy and now we face the painful part, vaccines.
Investigating we found that if you are coming from Latin America, to enter Thailand, the vaccine against yellow fever is required. We applied it in the Posadas Hospital, for free.

You put your arm loose, breathe deeply and once they deliver the vaccine they  give you an international certificate that you must photocopy because if you lose the original with the copy, a new certificate is extended. If you lose the original and you never made a photocopy you will have to go check the database where you were vaccinated. Take away a good cushion because you can spend several hours looking…
To avoid problems during the trip we decided to be advised at the Muniz Hospital, and made an appointment at «Travel Medicine» to inform us if another vaccine is needed. The service is excellent: four doctors spoke to us for an hour, maps in hand and they suggested different vaccines, explaining the reason for the advice
By having the complete vaccination plan, we took the following vaccines:
– Yellow Fever
– Typhoid Fever
– Double Adults
– Rabies: three doses
– Hepatitis B
– Hepatitis A
Double adults, Hepatitis A and B are applied for free in all public hospitals. Still, always call to check for availability of vaccines.
The other vaccines: rabies and typhoid, we bought them at the pharmacy.
In the Muniz Hospitalalso they told us how to put together the travel kit.

It sounds tedious, but like Grandma says «prevention is better than cure». We are excited about the idea to try the cuisine of the places where we travel. We do not want to deprive us of eating street food, and we do not want to get sick from eating something cold chain lost, for example. Did you know that you have to brush your teeth with bottled water? Most of the countries in that region of the planet do not have potable water.

We recommend to have the vaccines applied well in advance. In Posadas they explained that if you need several different vaccines they must be applied in a span of 24 hours. Or wait four weeks between a vaccine and the other.
